RCMP Advisory - April 16 through April 22

April 16 through April 22

Police are investigating after an incident on April 23 during which a 49 year old Fort Assiniboine male entered a residence in Barrhead County and assaulted a 59 year old male with a fire extinguisher. The two males are known to one another and the incident stemmed from a perceived debt between the two. As of April 23 the suspect has not been located but efforts are continuing.

Last week police  reported a black Pontiac Grand Am or Grande Prix with front end damage being involved in a pursuit. The same car fled from police on April 20. A member observed the suspect vehicle South bound on Highway 33. A traffic stop was attempted but the driver refused to stop. The suspect vehicle was last observed traveling North on Range Road 34 at speeds of 180 kph. Anyone with information about the black Grande Am or Grande Prix with damage to the front bumper is asked to contact Barrhead Detachment.

There were no Break and Enters reported this week but police were made aware of several thefts. A cat was reportedly stolen from the Neerlandia area on April 21. Not the caterpillar tractor "cat," but a gray cat "cat." Three solar decorative yard lights were stolen from a yard in Barrhead over night on the 21st and several items were stolen from an unlocked vehicle in Barrhead on April 20. A wallet was stolen from another unlocked vehicle on April 20 and a set of truck batteries were stolen on April 18. These batteries were located by the owner later the same day and three suspects are under investigation.

Police did enjoy some success this week. On April 18 a Chervrolet Avalanche was reported stolen from a residence in Barrhead. A spare set of keys had been left on the console. Early on April 19 a member located the stolen Avalanche in Fort Assiniboine. A second member attended to assist and a 34 year old male who was sleeping in the vehicle was taken into custody. The male is very well known to local members and was most recently arrested after being found asleep in a stolen car on November 18.

On April 20 a member was patrolling past a farm yard which is very well known for stolen property. The member observed a truck he had not seen previously and requested a second member attend to assist. The members were able to check the vehicle and determined that it had been stolen from Edmonton. A second stolen truck was located, this one having been stolen from St. Albert on April 12. Both vehicles were searched and an imitation hand gun, a stun gun and approximately 2 grams of crystal meth were located. Police also located evidence linking one of the vehicles to another theft. The investigation is ongoing and a 45 year old Barrhead County male can count on charges in the near future.
