RCMP Advisory - May 14 through May 20

May 14 through May 20
Three Assault complaints were received this week. On May 19 a 17 year old Barrhead male reported an assault which had occurred on New Year's Eve. A 20 year old Barrhead male is under investigation as a result. Also on May 19 police received a complaint of a domestic assault. The victim, a 31 year old Barrhead woman reported being pushed and choked by her 61 year old boyfriend, also a Barrhead resident. The male was located and arrested before being released on conditions with a first appearance date set for August 19. Finally, on May 20 police spoke with a 17 year old Barrhead male who stated that he had been assaulted by his father earlier this month. The 44 year old suspect was arrested and released on conditions with a first appearance set for July 28.
Break and Enter and theft complaints also kept members busy this week. B&E's were reported at Barrhead Composite on May 14, a garden shed in Barrhead on May 15, a shed at the Legion cemetery on May 17 and the high school again on May 18. Theft complaints included an Infinity Mercury 26 inch bicycle from a residence in Barrhead on May 18 and a set of binoculars from a locked truck in Barrhead on May 19.
Collisions have also picked up with the recent increase in traffic. Seven collision were reported this week with four involving deer and the remainder amounting to fender benders downtown. No injuries were reported.
On May 19 a member on patrol in Barrhead recognized the driver of a black Tahoe as a male wanted for drug offences out of Westlock. The male fled when the member initiated a traffic stop. The suspect drove through downtown Barrhead at just after 3 PM at high rates of speed while ignoring stop signs and one red light. Police did not pursue and it was simple good fortune that nobody was injured or killed. 36 year old Curtis Powder is wanted by Westlock RCMP for Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking and Obstructing a Peace Officer. As a result of the incident on May 19 Powder is facing charges of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police and Drive While Prohibited. A warrant for these offences is pending. Anyone with information regarding Powder's whereabouts are asked to contact the Westlock or Barrhead Detachments. Powder is considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached.
